Due anni son trascorsi dall'ultima release discografica del gruppo condotto dalla bella e talentuosa vocalist olandese, Simone Simons che, con la propria ugola, ha scaldato il cuore di migliaia di fans, egregiamente supportata dal proprio ex-boyfriend, nonché fondatore della band, Mark Jansen. Esce infattil il 16 Ottobre 2009 via Nuclear Blast Records, Design Your Universe, quinto full lenght della band che vede questa volta Ariën van Weesenbeek alle pelli, oltre alla partecipazione di Tony Kakko per  White Waters, ballata melodica ad un passo dalla suite finale come da tradizione della band.
Composto da 13 brani, forse troppi, Design Your Universe si muove sulla falsa riga di The Divine Conspiracy accentuando gli intrecci vocali growl/harsh con la ben più armoniosa voce di Simons, trucco che ben si presta per un'apertura coi fiocchi, per quanto l'intro epica farcita di cori lirici sia ormai una fastidiosa costante.

Cosa dire di un album che vede una band dal trademark ormai consolidato? Design Your Universe è un album omogeneo e compatto che mixa insieme brani orecchiabili d'impatto (Unleashed) ad altri più prolissi e degni di nota come la maestosa Resign to Surrender o la ballata malinconica su note di piano Tides of Time (che di nuovo ha praticamente nulla, ma che fa la sua dannatissima figura); un po' pacchiano forse, ma fans accaniti della band e del symphonic metal sapranno apprezzare.
