A NIGHT WITH: DONNY HILLER (TRAUMA)
THE COMEBACK ALBUM OF US HEAVY METALLERS TRAUMA WILL BE OUT ON FEBRUARY 27th, IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE HAD A LITTLE SPEACH WITH DONNY HILLER, FRONTMAN OF THE BAND, TO KNOW SOME MORE STUFF ON THEIR NEW RAPTURE & WRATH!
Hi Donny and welcome on the pages of The Bible of Metal! Over than 30 years since your previous album you are finally back with this new kickin' Rapture and Wrath, I guess it is a great emotion, isn't it?
Hi Alex, Thank you for your interest in Trauma.
Yes, we are very happy and grateful to be making music as Trauma once again. Much time has passed and we have all past and present members, had many experiences in music and in life since our last album. I have been in other bands, but have always wanted to revive Trauma. It took many years for it to happen, but it has.
When have you started working on Rapture and Wrath?
We started writing the songs for Rapture and Wrath in 2013.
Your new album has a really old school sound, was that a choice of yours to keep holding that kind of style?
It was not so much a choice of sounding particularly old school, as it is the way this line up sounds together. That is the way we play. Each of us brought our style to the band. That is how we hear the music. We write songs that we like the sound of, and that we like playing. If it is old school, then that is what happens. It is probably good that there is continuity to Trauma’s earlier sound.
Is it Pain dedicated to something in particular?
The fact that we all experience pain of many types again and again. Some peoples’ ability to be unkind to each other. To shuffle through life without an original thought in their heads. To follow others blindly, zombie-like when they could be much more.
I have loved pretty much the catchy rockin' riffing of Under the Lights, could you tell me something more about that song? What's your favourite song on Rapture and Wrath?
Under the Lights is about perseverance. We have had struggles in our careers and lives. Dreams dashed that had to be reshaped and rekindled. The loss of friends and loves. All the while determined to live your dreams through rights and wrongs. To Hell with it, we are going to Dance on the Devil’s Doorstep.
That is hard for me to say, but especially my favorite songs on Rapture and Wrath are When I Die and The Long Way Home.
What do you think of modern times and the internet influences to the music world?
Modern times, very interesting. Is the world more dangerous than ever before? Maybe, there certainly is a lot wrong. But then there are some amazing things like the Internet. It is such a fantastic thing for the music world. We can put our music and videos out to the world. We can communicate and interact with almost anyone, anywhere in the world, if they are online. There is limitless content on the Internet, for artistic pursuits, entertainment, business, knowledge.
Look how easily you and I can interact because of the Net.
Will we see a single from your new album Rapture and Wrath?
It is possible. Nothing planned at the moment.
Would you like to leave a message to the reader?
Yes, Alex and all you readers of The Bible of Metal, thank you for your love of music and in particular, Heavy Metal music.
Thank you for your undying attitudes that love raw, hard, heavy, passionate music. Thank you for being individuals that enjoy each other and belong to a great musical Brotherhood. We hope to meet you face to face.
You are the Best, and the Very Best Wishes to you.
Thank you,
Donny Hillier, Trauma
