A NIGHT WITH: AGE STEN NILSEN (AMMUNITION)

AMMUNITION'S DEBUT ALBUM SHANGHAIED IS NOW AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE VIA AORHEAVEN, TODAY HERE I'M HAVING A LITTLE TALK WITH AMMUNITION'S MAIN MEMBER AGE STEN NILSEN TO KNOW SOMETHING MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT AND THE ALBUM ITSELF!

Hi Age and welcome on the pages of The Bible of Metal!
AGE STEN NILSEN: Hello there Alex. Thank you for having me.

How was born this brand new super-project?
AGE STEN NILSEN: It all got started when I by accident ended up in Erik Mårtensson’s studio in Stockholm. Sha-Boom singer Dagfinn Strøm brought me along to his studio after a business meeting, and Erik and I got along immediately. I had written some songs for what was supposed to be Wig Wam’s album #5, and decided to record the demo’s with Erik. But when Wig Wam broke up we didn’t know what to do with the material recorded. Until Erik suggested starting a brand new band. So we started to write new material and then brought in Robban, Hal, Jon and Lasse… and then there was AMMUNITION. Now the debut album «Shanghaied» is out there and we are about to get the band on the road.

When have you started working on Ammunition's first step, Shanghaied?
AGE STEN NILSEN: When it was obvious that Wig Wam was a closed chapter, Erik and I had a heart to heart. We had recorded some great songs that suddenly had no home. And we just knew that we were a very strong unit together. So we decided to form a new band. Write new music. Unleash our creative beasts and just see what happened.

Could you tell me more about its' first rocking single, Tie Me Down?
AGE STEN NILSEN: Well, «Tie Me Down» was one of the first songs that Erik and I wrote after we had decided to put this band together. Erik had this cool riff and I just jumped on it like a wild animal. We really had a blast writing that song. The lyrics just wrote itself…and without even knowing it I was singing about a friend of mine that suffers from bipolar disorder.

Is Take Out The Enemies directed to someone in particular?
AGE STEN NILSEN: I guess what triggered the lyrics was the morning news that very day before walking to Erik’s studio. Some fucked up terror attack had happened. Erik came up with that great opening riff while I was at the toilet having a piss. The «gospel» melody just hit me, and I stormed out of the toilet singing it… and the words were just flying around. At first it was supposed to be directed to that terrorist organization from the news. But then I started to think about all those gruesome actions religion in general has caused throughout history of man kind. All religions promote peace and love… yet it seems human some way or another always misinterprets…

Who do we have to thank for the really nice artwork cover?
AGE STEN NILSEN: Thanks! I really love the artwork. It’s made by Anders Fästader, a swedish artist.

What's your programs for the next future?
AGE STEN NILSEN: Now that our debut album is out there we simply wanna take «Shanghaied» on the road you know. We just released our third music video from the album, «Give Me A Sign» , and we will do our first official post-album release gig April 15th in Oslo and we’ll do a number of club gigs in Norway and Sweden this spring. We’re hoping to bring Ammunition to Europe in the summer and fall, and will start to write for the next album.

Would you like to leave a message to the readers?
AGE STEN NILSEN: Sure indeed!! If you haven’t heard «Shanghaied» already…do it! If you have already…thanx!! Check out our website and join our official Facebook pages.
This is jujutsu the beginning.
