KRISHNA PERI WITH HIS BRAND NEW BAND RECENTLY RELEASED A FINE AND QUITE INTERESTING EP, CYCLOTRON. I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT THAT SO TO KNOW A LITTLE MORE ABOUT IT AND KRISHNA PERI I MADE HIM SOME QUESTIONS!
HAVE FUN!
Hi Krishna and welcome on the pages of The Bible of Metal! First things first, congrats for your debut EP which is very kickin'! I guess you're very proud of it, aren't you?
Thank you very much! Of course; I had spent quite some time working on it and I can say that it definitely has been rewarding. Not just the aspect of releasing an album but also I did gain some experience in composition, arrangement and how instrumental music needs to be visualized.
When did you start playing the guitar? Was there an album that pushed you to take this path?
I had begun playing the guitar in around 2012 or so. I would say that Appetite For Destruction by Guns N’ Roses would probably be the one. Until that time, I was surrounded by a community that knew nothing about hard rock or heavy music. It all changed when I had seen a YouTube video of Slash play one of his solos and instantly caught my attention. Since then, there was no stopping me and I wanted to absorb more of this kind of “new music” that I had discovered.

It was around 2016, and I had a few loose ideas for songs but they never materialized into anything because I could not find the right musicians to play along. And I myself had no idea how to record myself or even had no knowledge of the logistics of making an album. By mid-2017, I had moved to the States and acquired decent gear to record at home and slowly started fitting the pieces together. The songs felt very repetitive and lifeless in the initial phases. With some great advice and guidance from more experienced musicians, I managed to string these loose ends into coherent tracks.
I've read that this EP is something like a concept one with a scientist, Dr. Quark that ends up on a planet called Nabiru. What inspired you for your EP exactly?
I have always had this fascination toward the sci-fi and fantasy genres. Works of authors such as H.P Lovecraft and Isaac Asimov have been a huge inspiration. One of the songs, “Third from the sun” is actually a reference to an episode of the vintage TV series, “Twilight Zone”. At the end of the story, due to time-dilation, Dr.Quark ends up on planet earth, where lifeform is still developing. This was inspired from Stanley Kubrick’s classic, “2001: A Space Odyssey”. All of these combined, I had this rough storyline in my head that sort of became the backdrop for me to write some music. Apart from this, Joe Satriani has been a major influence on me. I had seen him live in January of 2018 and what fascinated me was how he could play instrumental music for a straight hour and still keep the audience on their toes. That moment inspired me deeply to pursue this herculean task of making my own music - this time with more seriousness.
A couple of weeks ago you've released a playthrough for the 2nd song Silver Linings, can you tell us more about that song?
“Silver Linings” is an interpretation of someone who is trying to relive some of their happiest moments from the past. There’s a small change of key in the middle of the song, where it becomes somewhat dissonant but transitions into a lighter mood toward the end. The idea behind doing this was to convey a bittersweet feeling and how things are bound to resolve in the end.
Will the adventures of Dr. Quark keep going on, maybe on a debut album?
Of course! There’s a lot more content that I wish to put out in the near future and I have already begun messing around with demos for the full length album. The illustrator, Paco Puente has designed this amazing artwork for Cyclotron and I wish to collaborate with him in putting out a comic strip along with the next album, so that the listeners might also enjoy reading the journey of Quark through the cosmos!
Would you like to leave a message to our readers?
Thank you for taking the time to read some of my thoughts. Do listen to my debut EP, “Cyclotron”, which is available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify etc. and leave your comments/ratings. I am excited to bring you some more content very soon. Cheers!
